A Life entangled in Thread, Wool and Needles

Since I’m in love with the poll function (and spent a little time playing with the photos…), I want to ask you…

Ich habe ja nichts gegen das Studieren an sich, aber im Winter ists schon etwas unpraktisch, denn von Montag bis Donnerstag sehe ich die Sonne nur durch die Fenster im Labor. Das sollte ja für ein Kellerkind wie mich nicht so ein Problem sein, aber ohne Tageslicht will ich keine Photos machen. Und so gibts heute (da ich dank eines Beschichtungs-Seminars etwas früher zuhause bin) direkt ein paar auf einmal.

Beide Sockenpaare sind maschinengestrickt und inzwischen siehen die Fersen auch so aus wie ich mir es vorgestellt habe. Die rot-schwarzen Ringelsocken sind ein Nikolaustiger von Drachenwolle. Das andere Paar ist Socks that Rock lightweight in der Färbung “Lapis”. Und ich muss sagen: rein vom Maschenbild und den Farben ist diese Färbung den Wollmeisen ebenbürtig. Wie es mit der Haltbarkeit aussieht kann ich natürlich noch nicht sagen. Und meine Begeisterung habe ich dann auch zum Anlass genommen dort nochmal zu bestellen (jetzt, da bald die Zollgrenze steigt). Lange bin ich um die Raven-Series herumgeschlichen und nun muss ich ja auch nicht mehr Angst haben Stunden beim Zoll zu verbringen und mir doofe Fragen stellen zu lassen (Nein, ich habe nichts gegen Zollmitarbeiter und es gibt da bestimmt ganz nette, doch bis jetzt hatte ich nicht das Glück diese zu treffen).

Und in der Mitte ist der Fan Neckwarmer aus Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000. Ging wunderbar schnell und ich liiiiebe die Farbe. Wäre ja eigentlich auch was für einen Pullover aber bis jetzt schrecke ich noch etwas davor zurück weil ich häufiger gelesen habe dass diese Wolle beim Waschen doch arg leiern soll. 10 Knäul in schwarz hätte ich davon ja eh noch….

Ach ja, der Corkscrew ist auch fertig geworden, hat’s aber nicht aufs Photo geschafft (zumal sich optisch da ja nicht viel tut ausser dass er länger geworden ist).

Don’t get me wrong, I like being a student, but in the winter it’s a little unhandy. From Monday to Thursday I leave home before dawn and come home after dusk. So I only see the daylight when I’m at the university. In general no problem for nerdy me but without daylight I don’t like to take photos (they always look crappy. I can get enough light by switching on every light-bulb in my room but the colors are just off). So I had a few things in the waiting line to get photographed when I luckily got home a little earlier because of a coating-workshop today.

Both pairs of socks are machineknitted and I seem to got the heel right this time. No tightening up of the wrapped stitches necessary! The ones with the black and red stripes are done with the “Nikolaustiger” colorway dyed by Drachenwolle. The others are Socks that Rock  leightweight in “Lapis”. I have to admit: looking at the stitch definition and the colors they are equal to Wollmeise. Concerning the longevity I can’t say anything right now. Because of being soooo happy with the way these socks turned out I ordered 4 different colorways of the raven series (thanks for a new law concerning customs I won’t need to pay any fee for packages under 150€, great uh?). I used the grawk one a few months ago for gloves and the “dark but still a little color” way these are dyed is just perfect for me. Enough color to keep me interested but still dark enough so that I will wear them. I looked at them for a loooong time but could hold me off by the thought of sitting at the customs once again and needing to answer stupid questions (no, I don’t hate people working at the customs in general and I don’t doubt that there are incredible nice ones. I just hadn’t the luck to meet them).

On the photo in the center you can see the Fan Neckwarmer (done with Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000). This project went so fast and I love the color. Could imagine it as a pullover but until now I can hold me back because I heard rumors about the yarn getting out of after washing. Have still 10 skeins in black of it sitting here and thinking what to do with it..

Not in the picture but nevertheless finished: the damn corkscrew. I skipped it while taking the photos because it doesn’t look any different since the last picture except being a little longer…

..but even through it was raining outside there was enough light to take a few photos!

The yellowish-green socks top left are the ones I did yesterday on the passap using Trekking XXL in colorway 1002. Looking at the skein I really didn’t thought that it would produce that wide striping. I still have a few issues with the heel (the wraps are still a little loose) but I think they are quite okay. Turned out a bit wide and too long on the foot because dump me used stitchsize 5 1/2 instead of the 5 I used on the last socks.

Top right is the first of the current wips: the fan neckwarmer, done in Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000. Compared with the rest of my recent handknitting WIPs and FOs this goes sooooo fast.

Opposite to this, see photo bottom left. The never ending corkscrew. I seem to have crossed the line from a “okay, I will knit a few more rows” to”nooooo!! I don’t want to go on with this anymore!”. With more than a month left till christmas I think I can give me a little break on this one.

Bottom right: The finished Spina di pesce socks, done with Wollmeise natural which I dyed myself. I love this pattern! Even the socks being a little tight . But I can get my feet inside and the don’t cut off my circulation, so I’m fine.

Thought a little more about the blanket I’m planning to knit on the passap. Usually I love choosing color combinations, but I really have issues finding the ones I want. Perfect would be a yarn avaidable in black, at least 4 greys and at least 4 purples. Thought about using knitpicks but none of their yarns has such a range (at least in fingering/sport weight). Anna mentioned in her comment to the last post that my thoughts about combining green, purple, grey and black would be a little to colorful for her and this reminded me of a common problem with me: I tend to choose quite colorful projects but don’t wear/use them because they are too colorful (I know, kind of strange. Can’t help it). Any suggestions on a yarn line with a bigger range of colors which is mainly made of non scratchy wool? Wollmeise came to my mind but getting all the colors in the necessary quantities seems to be quite impossible right now. Another issue: I won’t have money to eat anything for the next month because of bankruptcy.

Obwohl es gerade regnet (und jetzt, da ich beim deutschen Teil angekommen bin) ein bischen schneit (leider bleibt nichts liegen) war’s noch hell genug um ein paar Photos zu machen.

Die gelb-grünen Socken habe ich gestern abend mit der Strickmaschine gestrickt, und zwar aus Trekking XXL in Farbe 1002, letzte Woche erst im Wolltreffer erstanden. Ich hätte allein vom Knäul ansehen nicht gedacht, dass die Streifen so breit werden! Ein paar Probleme mit den Wickelmaschen der Ferse habe ich immer noch, aber trotzdem finde ich sie okay. Leider sind sie am Fuß ein bischen zu weit und zu lang weil ich die Maschengröße falsch eingestellt habe (5 1/2 statt 5). Mag daran gelegen haben, dass es fast 8 Uhr abends war und ich von 7 Uhr morgens an auf den Beinen war und so ein stressiger Tag sich doch negativ auf mein Hirn auswirken.

Ein neues WIP ist der Fan Neckwarmer gestrickt aus Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000 (Photo oben rechts). Verglichen mit meinen anderen WIPs und FOs die ich in letzter Zeit (mit der Hand) gestrickt habe, strickt sich der wahnsinnig schnell.

Im Gegensatz dazu: der Corkscrew-scarf für meine Mutter (unten links). Mittlerweile wandelte sich meine Stricklust an diesem Projekt von einem “naja, ich kann ja noch eine Reihe stricken” zu “och nee, nicht schon wieder, ich will das nicht mehr stricken!”. Aber da ja noch ein Monat Zeit ist, zwinge ich mich (vorerst) nicht.

Im Photo unten rechts sind die mittlerweile schon etwas länger fertigen Spina di Pesce socken. Gestrickt sind die aus naturfarbener Wollmeise Twin, die ich vorher gefärbt habe. Ich mag dieses Strickmuster, auch wenn der Socken etwas eng ist. Aber solange ich ihn noch über meinen Fuß bekomme und er mir nicht das Blut abschnürt, ists ja noch okay.

..und ich habe noch ein bischen über die Decke die ich stricken will sinniert. Normalerweise mag ich es wirklich Farben auszuwählen und zu kombinieren, aber hier finde ich einfach nicht die die ich wirklich suche. Perfekt wäre ja ein Garn dass sowohl in schwarz als auch in jeweils 4 Grau- und Lilatönen lieferbar ist. Erst dachte ich ja an knitpicks aber bis jetzt konnte ich kein Garn von denen finden, dass diese Anforderung erfüllt (zumindest in einer Gewichtsklasse die meine Strickmaschine nicht zum weisses-Fähnchen wedeln bringt). Was noch dazukam: Anna hat in ihrem letzten Kommentar auf meinem Blog geschrieben, dass ihr schwarz/lila/grün/grau zu bunt wäre. Und wir 2 sind da wohl doch recht ähnlich gestrickt….Denn ich bin wirklich talentiert mir absolut bunte Garne für Projekte zusammenzusuchen aber das fertige Objekt nie zu tragen oder zu benutzen weil es mir zu bunt ist. Und ich denke bei einer Decke wäre es nicht anders…

Hat irgendjemand eine Idee welches Garn eine größere Lila/Grau Auswahl hat und aus Wolle und nicht kratzig ist? Kurz dachte ich ja an Wollmeise, aber so wie es momentan bei den Updates zugeht ists wirklich unmöglich die nötigen Farben in diesen Mengen zu bekommen. Zumal gäbs da wohl Finanzierungsprobleme.

I need to point out, that the knittingmachine has a huge stash busting ability. In a few hours hundreds of meters of yarn are knitted up. Is this cheating? I read this somewhere on the web…At least I might get on with my plan to prevent my stash from expanding and taking total control of my room. I hope to get another pair of socks done when I visit my parents tomorrow evening (it’s a Zitron Trekking colorway which should kind of stripe in a yellowish-green)…

Another good thing: Since I saw Kaita knitting the mitred square blanked it stayed in the back of my mind that I would love to have one myself. And know what? The knitting machine might work for this because I don’t think that I would get this blanket ever done if knitting it by hand. Plan to use the Knitpicks Essential yarn (seems that I found someone who will help me on that in exchange for some wollmeise) in violet, black, green and grey. Still thinking of the range of colors I need to make it look good. I browsed the projects on ravelry and found both projects using only 4 colors and ones using dozens of them. But every other color I try to add just doesn’t look right to me. I really don’t want to get a multicolor rainbow like blanket because it would look really strange to the rest of our furniture…. Any opinions on that?

Thanks to me needing to stay late at the university the pictures I tried to take from the finished spina di pesce socks look like crap. Not even heavy filter use could make them any better. Seems that I will need to wait for Friday where I don’t need to go to the university to make a second attempt.

Mums Corkscrew scarf is SLOWLY growing. The amount of yarn I used already is really insane for the size of it. Up until now it weights about 200g and much to short to use it, so I will knit on to make it double the length it has now. So this will add up to a total 400g of wool for this (small!!!) scarf. The spiral thing is just eating up the yarn.

Spinning isn’t going anywhere because the wheel is still at my parents because I won’t cram it in my little car to put it up in the flat of my partner we will move out of in less than 4 weeks. So, no spinning done at all.

When I was at the Wollfabrik last week, I saw the Louet S45 and was kind of… hmm… lured. It looks so cute! I don’t really like the look of most folding wheels and this one is just nice and tiny without any folding-metal-parts looking like.. don’t know. Just not the way I want a spinningwheel to look like. You see, I’m looking for a travel wheel. Maybe I will get back there and testspin it…..

Ich muss ja mal sagen, so eine Strickmaschine ist schon ein echter Wollfresser. In ein paar Stunden verschwinden hunderte Meter Garn aus meinem Stash. Ist das geschummelt? Sowas habe ich ja mal im Internet gelesen…. Aber so werde ich wenigstens mit meinem Plan meinen Wollstash ein bischen zu reduzieren wenigsten ein klein wenig Erfolg haben. Hoffentlich klappt alles und ich habe morgen abend Zeit ein Paar Socken zu Stricken wenn ich bei meinen Eltern bin (eine neue Zitron Trekking Färbung die in gelb/grün ringeln soll).

Und da ist noch etwas: Seit ich Kaita an dem Mitred square blanket habe stricken sehen, gibt diese Decke mir nicht mehr aus dem Kopf. Wäre ja schon nett sowas zu haben. Und wenn ich das alles richtig sehe, dann klappt das mit meiner Strickmaschine (handgestrickt würde ich damit wohl nie fertig werden). Geplant ist dafür Knitpicks Essential (ich habe jemanden gefunden der die Lieferung von Amerika aus an mich weiterleitet im Austausch gegen Wollmeisen). Bei Knittybitty gibts die zwar, aber nicht in den den Farben die ich gerne hätte: violett, grün, schwarz, grau. Und das ist auch wieder so eine Sache: sind das zu wenige Farben? Ich habe bei Ravelry mal ein paar Projekte angesehen und manche benutzen nur 4 Farben und andere Dutzende (mh, Kaita? Fühlst du dich angesprochen?). Aber irgendwie finde ich keine anderen Farben mehr die dazu 100% passen. Und zu bunt würde die Decke wohl auch nicht zum Rest der Wohnung passen. Irgendwelche Meinungen?
Da ich in letzter Zeit unter der Woche (bzw. mo-do) bis abends an der Hochschule bin, habe ich bis jetzt zwar versucht Photos von den fertigen Spina di Pesce Socken zu machen, aber sie waren sowas von unscharf oder durch ISO 1600 absolut körnig. Da half sogar mehrfache mit Filtern drüberbügeln nicht mehr. Vielleicht klappts ja am Freitag mit ein paar akzeptablen Photos.

Der Corkscrew Schal für meine Mutter wächst LANGSAM. Die Garnmenge die da mittlerweile drinsteckt ist einfach unglaublich wenn man sich die Größe die das Ding bis jetzt hat ansieht. Fast 200g und immernoch nicht genug. Doppelt so lang wäre schon gut, also werden es so 400g für diesen doch recht schmalen und kurzen Schal. Solche Spiralen verbrauchen einfach zu viel Wolle.

Gesponnen wurde nix, weil mein Spinnrad immernoch bei meinen Eltern steht, denn in weniger als 4 Wochen wird mein Freund umziehen und für die paar Wochenenden die ich bei ihm bin werde ich das Rad nicht in mein Auto stecken.

Letzte Woche hat’s mich mal wieder zur Wollfabrik verschlagen und ich habe mir dort mal die Spinnräder angesehen. Das Louet S45 sieht ja schon wirklich seeehr interessant aus. Die meisten Reisespinnräder sind einfach nicht mein Fall, weil sie irgendwie .. naja… z.B. beim Ashford Joy dieses Metallschanier an der Seite. Jaja, ich weiss, das muss ja da sein, es wird ja was hochgeklappt, aber ich mag das trotzdem nicht. Erinnert mich etwas an einen Klappstuhl. Ausserdem ist die Form von dem Louet einfach so ungewöhnlich. Vielleicht werde ich ja nochmal vorbeifahren und probespinnen…

Gestern konnte ich das erste mal in Ruhe ein bischen die Strickmaschine erkunden. Das Ziel war ein paar Socken und es hat auch geklappt, allerdings war die Wolle die ich zuerst gewählt hatte wohl nicht der Geschmack der Maschine, da sah das alles recht unordentlich aus und ich habe öfters Maschen verloren. Die Trekking von Zitron scheint aber schon eher ihr Fall zu sein, und so kam auch ein ganz akzeptables Paar Socken heraus:

Yesterday was the first time for me exploring my new knitting machine. The goal was to knit a pair of socks and it worked. Okay, the wool I picked at first wasn’t a good choice (maybe a little too bulky for my standard gauge machine) and I had problems with loops and lost stitches at the edges of the tube. Taking another yarn (this time Trekking by Zitron)  fixed all these problems and I made a pair of (fitting!) socks.

Was die richtige Fadenspannung und die Maschengröße angeht, ists wohl Erfahrungssache und von Garn zu Garn unterschiedlich.

Gesponnen habe ich auch, nochmal 200g vom roten Kammzug den ich als letztes schon zu Garn verarbeitet hatte. Der Schal für meine Mutter (der Corkscrew-scarf) braucht einfach mehr Wolle, als ich gedacht hätte. Aber nun habe ich ja nachschub und dann kanns nächste Woche weitergehen

Und sonst? Die Spina di Pesce Socken wachsen langsam, und vielleicht bekomme ich sie nächste Woche fertig. Ich muss mich da im Moment ein bischen zwingen, weil ich eigentlich ein paar neue Handschuhe anfangen will, aber so viele WIPs nichts für mich sind.

I also spun a little, another 200g of the roving I used for the yarn for a christmas present for my mother (the corkscrew scarf). I underestimated the amount of yarn needed and ran out of it about half way through.

On knitting: I try to knit a few pattern repeats on the spina di pesce socks every week and I’m hoping to get them done next week. I don’t think that I have ever worked on a pair of socks for that long (um, lets say: neglected a WIP for so long. I had motivation problems…). I want to get it done because there are so much design ideas for gloves in my head but I don’t want to add another WIP without finishing one.

Für alle hinterm Mond oder die die noch nicht in ihren Feedreader geschaut haben: die neue Twist Collective Ausgabe ist da und sieht auch wieder wirklich gut aus. Wenn ich dann mal den Wisteria gestrickt habe, erlaube ich mir auch da vielleicht das eine oder andere Muster zu kaufen. Aber im Moment bin ich noch standhaft.

Und nun noch zu was ganz anderem: Ich habe auf Birgits Blog ein violettes Mobile erspäht (und mich verliebt) und so haben wir getauscht. Sie bekommt von mir einen Strang handgesponnene Wolle und ich das Objekt in meiner (mindestens zweit-) Lieblingsfarbe. Fragt mich nicht, wie die Post es geschafft hat, aber es ist schon hier!

The next thing is only for the ones behind the times: the new twist collective (winter issue) is online and looks great! No, I won’t buy some of the patterns (they look awesome! I would love to have them) until I have started & finished the Wisteria pattern which I bought from the last issue…

And now to a completely different thing: I saw on Birgits Blog a purple mobile and fell in love with it. So we swapped: I sent her a skein of handspun and I got from her the thingy in my (at least second ) favorite color. Isn’t it cute?

In der neuen Wohnung meines Freundes (er wird wohl zum Jahreswechsel umziehen) ist wahrscheinlich ein kleiner Raum übrig, und da darf ich mich dann mit meinem Textilgedöns ausbreiten. Wäre doch ein perfekter Ort für so ein Mobile, oder? Nochmal vielen vielen Dank Birgit, ich bin wirklich hin und weg!

In the new flat of my partner (he will move around the turn of the year) there might be a little room which I can use for all my textile Things. Wouldn’t it be a perfect place for such a mobile? Again, big thanks to you, Birgit!

Man ist ja als Bewohner im Studentenwohnheim so einiges gewöhnt…

• häufiger mit kaltem Wasser duschen (jetzt sagt nix, dass das super für den Kreislauf ist. Das ist einfach nur schrecklich)
• abends nach Hause kommen und merken, dass scheinbar Handwerker die Toilette oder das Fenster ausgebaut haben
• mit wildfremden Leuten ein Badezimmer teilen, die man teils aber für ein Jahr nie zu Gesicht bekommt obwohl man weiss das sie da sind
• ….

Und heute wars mal wieder soweit. Ich kam heute abend an, und das Licht im Vorraum geht nicht (nicht so schlimm, das brauchst du nicht unbedingt). Weitere Entdeckung: das Licht in meinem Wohnraum geht nicht (öhm…)… und bis auf eine Steckdose, an der glücklicherweise der PC/sonstiges Technikzeugs hängt, geht heute garnix mit Strom. Auch nicht die Lampe im Bad. Ich muss sagen, ist schon recht dunkel hier, denn abgesehen von den nicht funktionierenden Deckenlampen habe ich jetzt nur meine kleine Lampe die vor sich hinfunzelt.

Der Hausmeister ist erst morgen da, also muss es erstmal so gehen. Duschen im dunkeln ist ja noch irgendwie okay, aber Mustersocken im fast dunklen gehen wirklich nicht. Sehr doof

Tja, was macht man da? Nähen, denn so eine Nähmaschine hat ja ein Nählicht. Und nun ist die Hose für meinen Vater (er hat übermorgen Geburtstag) fertig. Ich hoffe, sie passt auch.

As a dorm resident there are things you get used to…

• having a shower with cold water once in a while (don’t tell me that this is great for circulation, this is torture)
• getting home in the evening and realizing that the toilet or a window is gone (apparently they wanted to replace it but it would be tooo nice to tell me in advance)
• sharing the bathroom with totally unknown people, some of them you won’t see face to face in a year, although they still live next to you
• ….

Today it was time for another episode. I arrived here this evening and I realized that the light in the hallway don’t work (not that bad, don’t need them that much). But: The light in my room doesn’t work also (hum…)… except for one socket (the one with the pc and other technical gadgets) there wis no electricity at all. No, in the bathroom there is no light either. It’s really dark here! Besides the ceiling lamp I only have a small light which tries hard to light up this room.

The caretaker won’t get around until tomorrow morning and I can’t put the fuse back in myself because the cabinet with all the fuses is locked. Having a shower in the dark was okay, but it’s impossible for me to knit on my socks (cables.. lots of cables) when it’s that dark.

What can I do in such a situation? Sewing, because there is a small light on my sewing machine. The workpants for my dad’s birthday (the day after tomorrow) is already done. I hope that it will fit him!

Mir sind Vögel zugeflogen. 4 Stück! Ich hoffe, ich finde noch ein schönes Plätzchen für sie… zum überwintern.

Nur Wolle kaufen geht natürlich auch nicht, es ist auch noch was fertig geworden:

Die Wolle habe ich selbst gefärbt und das Muster ist auch ein eigenbau, weil ich mal längsgestrickte Socken testen wollte, aber alles längs war mir viel zu wenig dehnbar um einen bequemen Socken zu ergeben.

Heute habe ich bei meinen Eltern die große Strickmaschinen Reinigungsaktion gestartet und dann auch ein paar Reihen (links im Bild, RR) und Runden (rechts im Bild). Klappt eigentlich ganz gut, nur an einer der Kanten entstehen manchmal noch etwas zu lange Fadenschlaufen. ich nehme an es lag an meinem schlampig gewickelten Restknäul…

Nächste Woche will ich mich dann mal an einem Socken versuchen. Ich bin jetzt schon begeistert von der Geschwindigkeit. Vielleicht sollte ich mir mal bei der Hamburger Wollfabrik ein bischen Merino, 4 fähdig auf Kone kaufen um einen Pulli zu stricken?? Wäre ja mal was, denn meistens mag ich die Optik von fein gestricktem (unter Nadelstärke 4) deutlich lieber als sowas ganz grobes. Zudem ziehe ich die dicken Pullis kaum an weil ich nur selten friere und sowas dann nur für 5 kalte Wintertage pro Jahr tragbar ist.

Buying wool and just putting into big boxes isn’t exactly what I thought of when planning a stash diet, so I finished a pair of socks (good deal, eh? one pair of socks for 4 skeins of wollmeise). I used wool I handdyed myself and the pattern is also selfconstructed. I wanted to knit something like the sidewinder, but they were not as elastic as I want my socks to be…

Today the big “clean-your-knitting-machine” day had arrived. After picking all the wooly things out of it and oiling it I tried knitting both flat and in the round. Both worked out fine, only when knitting in the round the stitches at one edge look a little lumpy. I think it may be due to my not so good skeined up wool I used for this trial.

Next week I want to encounter socks. I’m thrilled by the speed of it. Mayby I should buy a cone of Merino 4-ply at the Hamburger Wollfabrik for a sweater? I prefer the look a finer gauge sweaters and there is also a practical aspect. Sweaters done with worsted wool are sooo warm (I don’t get cold so easily) that I wear them at most 5 times when there are really really cold winter days…

Ich lebe in dem Glauben, dass die 14(?) Quadratmeter meines Wohnheimzimmers beliebig zu strecken sind. Anders kann ich mir nicht erklären, dass ich eine Strickmaschine gekauft habe (eine Passap Duomatic 80, fast neu, für 150 Euro, da konnte ich nicht widerstehen) um diese in meinem Zimmer aufzustellen. Nach einer halben Stunde Möbelrücken hatte ich zwar eine Lösung gefunden, dass ich zumindest noch an das Fenster, den Schreibtisch und alle Schränke irgendwie drankomme,… aber nach 2 Stunden wurde mir klar, dass ich so hier nicht leben kann. Ich bin ja recht resistent was Kistenstapel und sowas angeht, aber das überschreitet jetzt definitiv meine Schmerzgrenze was das Verhältnis von freiem Raum zu Mobiliar angeht. Nach noch etwas mehr Möbelrücken (inzwischen leicht verzweifelt) habe ich dann bei meinen Eltern angerufen ob ich die Strickmaschine bei ihnen unterstellen kann bis ich in eine größere Wohnung ziehe (in ca. 1,5 Jahren). Nein, das war keine einfache Entscheidung, aber sie ist nötig. Denn wenn ihr euch jetzt vorstellt dass in diesem Zimmer mein Bett, Kleiderschrank, Schreibtisch, 3 Nähmaschinen, (noch) ein Spinnrad, haufenweise Wolle un Bücher sind, (und bedenkt, dass hier kein Photo im Post ist, das müsste euch zu denken geben. Es ist zu chaotisch um es hier zu zeigen. Ehrlich, das ist mir peinlich wie es momentan hier aussieht), dann habt ihr eine Ahnung.

Naja, ich sollte es positiv sehen, ich habe ein Schnäppchen gemacht, und das wird es immernoch bleiben wenn ich die Strickmaschine dann in mittelfristiger Zukunft nutzen kann. Trotzdem doof

I seem to live in the believe that the 14 (?) sqauremeters of my dorm room are expandable. There is no other explanation for me buying a knitting machine (a passap duomatic 80, nearly new, for 150 Euro, I couldn’t resist) to put it up in my room. After rearranging the rest of the furniture for half an hour I got to a state in which I could get to the window, the desk and all the drawers….. but after additional 2 hours I realized that I can’t live like that. I’m fairly resistant against stacks of bins and things like that, but this is just toooooo much. The ratio of free space to furniture is sooo wrong in here. After a little more rearranging (by now with a little despair) I called my parents to ask them if I could store the machine at their home until I move in a bigger flat (in ca. 1,5 years). No, no easy decision but it was necessary. Just imagine: in my room are currently a bed, a closet, a big desk, 3 sewing machines, one spinning wheel, my stash and loots of books. (Let’s say there is a reason why I didn’t include a photo. It’s just too embarrassing). What was I thinking when I decided to get the knitting machine in here?

However, I try to look at it in a positive way: I made a bargain and it will still be one when I get to use it in my new flat in the not so near future. Still I’m sad right now.

Wenn es nicht schon dunkel wäre, gäbs jetzt schon ein Photo von den ersten 200g die auf dem Rad gesponnen worden sind. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, dass die Spulen wirklich groß sind, denn es passte alles auf eine mit noch ein bischen Platz für mehr. Aber da die Wolle auch noch nass auf der Haspel hängt, warte ich mal bis morgen mit den Photos.

und nun zu dem auf das der Titel anspielt: der Name. Ich bin ja eigentlich jemand, der für nichts einen Namen hat. Weder für Zimmerpflanzen noch für Nähmaschinen. Aber hier würde ich ja glatt eine Ausnahme machen. Spontan würde mir jetzt Woolpecker einfallen (wegen dem kleinen Specht), aber wenn hier jemand eine brennende Idee hat, dann immer raus damit!

If it wouldn’t be dark outside I would have taken photos of the first 200g which I spun up with the wheel. Doing this I noticed that the bobbins are huuuuuge because all the fiber fitted on one, including a little space for more. Since the wool is sitting damp on my swift I will wait until tomorrow to make photos.

And now to the topic the title is referring to: the name. To be honest, I’m not a person who gives things names. None of my houseplants or sewing machines have a name. But in the case of the wheel I think there could be an exception. The first thing which got on my mind was Woolpecker (due to the little Woodpecker), but if anyone of you has a suggestion, tell me!

I already spun a little on it and it’s just soooo wonderful. I’m in love.
