It’s been a long time

Since I last posted anything. I’m sorry but there is so much I want (and in some cases need) to do each day that I simply forget about blogging. I’m not sure if this will change considerably in the future. I’m kind of half way through my master thesis, need to look for a new flat (I leave the dorm! woohoo!), getting a job…. and knitting.

I finally managed to set up a website for my design work, you can find it here. If you have any feedback on this still very new project: let me know!

Currently on my needles: Avantgarde, a testknit for Arleneslace. What a awesome pattern! I’m using black Wollmeise and I’m sure it will look great once I’m done. Here’s her version of the stole

 

Anyone still around?

Nun puste ich hier mal den Staub weg und poste wieder etwas:

Erstmal eine Ansammlung der letzten FOs sowie meines neuen Umhängeschlittens für die Strickmaschine. Letzteren habe ich durch Zufall bei Ebay erspäht und habe sofort zugeschlagen.

Back from Hibernation! First of all a small selection of the newest FOs as well as my new Transfer-carriage which I bought on ebay.

In der linken Spalte sind meine beiden Ausflüge ins Shibori zu sehen. In beiden Fällen habe ich mit einem 1-fach Wollgarn der Hamburger Wollfabrik ein riesiges Rechteck auf der Maschine gestrickt, dann mit Sockenwollresten einzelne Zipfel abgebunden und das ganze dann in die Waschmaschine gesteckt.

Mitte oben: die Fäustlinge in Doppelstrick haben geklappt! Sogar besser als ich erwartet hätte und nun bastele ich an einer Anleitung.

In the left column are my 2 newest adventures in Shibori. Both of them were knitted as large rectangles using a woolen thread (purchased at the Hamburger Wollfabrik) on the knittingmachine. Then I wrapped sock yarn leftovers around small sections and felted it in the washing machine.

Center top: the mittens in doubleknitting worked out fine! Even better than I had anticipated! So I’m in the middle of writing down an instruction.

Aber mein ganz besonderer Liebling ist die Stola (mitte unten), gestrickt aus Wollmeise Lace in Mitternacht. Die Anleitung (als Ammonit bei Ravelry zu finden) wurde von Arlene geschrieben und ich hatte die Freude sie teststricken zu dürfen. Sowohl über die Schulter drapiert als auch als Schal super tragbar. Und das beste: die besondere Konstruktion verhindert großflächiges Pooling. Ich bin ja sonst nicht so der Lacestricker aber diese Stola finde ich klasse weil sie eben schlicht ist, aber trotzdem nicht einfach nur ein Rechteck ist. Neben der Stolavariante gibts das ganze auch noch als Tuch, wofür man dann etwas mehr Garn braucht.

But my favorite FO is the stole (Center bottom), knitted using Wollmeise Lace in Mitternacht. The pattern (Ammonit on Ravelry) is by Arlene and I was on of the  lucky ones to do the testknitting. You can wear it like shown in the photo, but also like a scarf around your neck and it’s just nice and warm and beautiful. Another great thing about it: the way it is constructed prevents the yarn from pooling all over the thing. Normally I’m not in for the big lacy things (not because of disliking the look in general. It’s just that it doesn’t fit to my wardrobe), but this one just right. No fancy motive-like things but still a far-from normal construction adding interest both while knitting and wearing it. In addition to the stole there is also a shawl version of it, needing a bit more yarn.

Nachdem mein PC seit ein paar Tagen wieder alle paar Stunden einfriert (und dabei den kompletten Satz Chart-Dateien für einen neuen Handschuh zerlegt hat *grrrrrrr*) mache ich mir so langsam gedanken ob ich mir nicht einen neuen Computer kaufen sollte. Diese Symptomatik hatte ich vor einem halben Jahr schonmal, inclusive mehrmaligem Betriebssystem erneuern, RAM austauschen ect. So langsam reichts mir wirklich mit diesem Ding. Dann und wann mal absaufen ist ja okay (mittlerweile kenne ich den XP Bluescreen schon fast so gut wie den von Win 98 früher), aber einfach mein Muster zerstören geht zu weit. Aber da es so eine schicke neue Kiste ja nicht umsonst gibt muss da erstmal gespart werden.

Onto another topic: my darn computer. Every few hours I get a screen freeze (today it destroyed the chart-files for a glove design I just worked out while doing so). I think it’s time to think of an new one. I had pretty much the same problems about half a year ago, leading to multiple hours spent with installing the operating system (again and again and again) as well as replacing the RAM memory (and loosing a lot of files…). I just don’t want to go through this again (paying again about 150 euros for the replacement parts) only to see it freeze again after a few months. I don’t care if a computer will crash once in a while but not every few hours. Meanwhile I know the XP Bluescreen just as well as I knew the one from windows 98 years and years ago. I can’t get over all the charts being gone . So much work to reconstruct them as I have no notes about it. . Sad day.

 

Another Fair…

Letztes Wochenende habe ich mit zwei Freundinnen die diesjährige Creativa in Dortmund unsicher gemacht. Geplant waren von meiner Seite exzessive Wollkäufe, ich schwelgte gedanklich schon in Wollbergen der verschiedensten Hersteller. Naja, es kam dann doch etwas anders. Ein bischen Sockenwolle gabs und recht viel Brazilia und anderen Glitzerkram a la Ponpongarn. Und so blieb mir nichts anderes übrig als meine Pläne zu ändern und das Geld wieder nach hause zu tragen. Trotzdem haben sich einige Sachen gefunden, die ich uuunbedingt photographieren musste…

I visited another fair on the last weekend: the Creativa in Dortmund. I had planned to buy truckloads of wool and dreamed about endless amounts of different yarns I could choose from. Well, not that much. There were booths selling sockyarn (Regia, a bit of Schoppel) and lots of eyelash yarn or other novelty stuff. And so I couldn’t help but carry the money back home. Nevertheless I have found things which I couldn’t help but take a photo of….

In der oberen Reihe 3 Webstühle/rahmen auf einem Stand einer Webergilde. Schon der alte Schützen-Jacquardwebstuhl in der Hochschulweberei fasziniert mich, und da konnte ich natürlich an dem schönen großen Webstuhl ganz links nicht vorbeigehen. Einfach toll. Der “haben wollen” Reflex konnt aber noch abgeschüttelt werden, denn so ein Gerät ist zu teuer UND zu groß. Ein weiteres Highlight für mich war eine kleine Ausstellung über expirementelle Textilkunst: von der bestickten Autotür (ganz links) seltsamen gebilden aus schwarzen verschmolzenen Fäden (Mitte) oder gefalteten Bodenkreaturen (rechts) gabs viel schönes und ideenreiches zu sehen.  Für sowas jenseits der gewohnten Wege bin ich ja sowieso zu haben . In der unteren Zeile gibts dann links eine Quilting-Nähmaschine. Ein echter Traum für jeden Quilter. Ich durfte auch mal ausprobieren und das macht wirklich Spaß! Leider wie auch der Webstuhl nicht für meinen Geldbeutel zu haben. Das Photo in der Mitte der unteren Zeile zeigt dann einen Ausschnitt aus einem mit dieser Maschine gefertigten Quilt. Einfach nur wahnsinn. Klar, handgequiltet sieht anders aus, aber für mich haben beide Formen ihre Berechtigung. Diese Reliefwirkung finde ich einfach umwerfend. Und als letztes unten rechts etwas, das ich bisher noch nie gesehen habe: ein dreidimensionales Bild, hergestellt aus Ton und dann von innen im Rahmen angestrahlt. Der Detailgrad war wirklich beeindruckend, denn das Bild auf dem Photo ist nur ca. 20×20 cm groß! Einzelne Fenster und Dachziegel waren da zu sehen!

Fazit: meine Wollträume wurden nicht erfüllt, aber ich habe viele interessante Dinge gesehen, denen ich sonst wohl nie begegnet wäre. Und man muss ja nicht immer Wolle kaufen

In the top row: 3 looms on a booth of a weaving gild. I love to look at the old jacquard shuttle loom in the weaving lab at the university so I couldn’t resist but stand in awe in front of them. Especially the big one on the left. But thanks to the size and prize of such a thing I could finally go away… still drooling . Another booth which really got me was a small exhibition of experimental textile arts. There was everything from embroidered car doors (on the left of the second row of pictures), strange pieces of fused black yarn hanging from the ceiling (center) and origami like folded things on the ground. I always love experimental arts and this was just such a great selection! In the bottom row: a quilting machine!  What a dream this machine is! I got the opportunity to try it and it’s big fun. But as for the loom I can’t afford such a machine. And I think I don’t have the time to really use it as much as it should be used. In the middle there’s a pic of a quilt done with the machine (to be more exact: only a detail). Awesome, gorgeous, I can’t think of enough words. I love the relief-like effect of the machine quilting on the leaves. And the bottom right pictures shows something I have never seen before: a three dimensional painting (I think painting is wrong here…), done out of clay with a small light-bulb inside of the frame highlighting the depth! This piece of art only measures about 20×20cm and there was so much detail to it! Windows, single tiles on the roof!

Conclusion: No wool this time, but I had the chance to see some interesting and amazing things which I wouldn’t have meat otherwise. Sometimes it’s okay to go without having bought any wool…

And now onto this weeks knitting-review:

The endpaper mitts in doubleknitting are done. It worked out well (even picking up stitches on both sides of the thumb which scared me a bit at the beginning in fear of holes and distorted stitches).

Nebenbei brauchte ich auch noch was grobmotorisch strickbares, eine neue Mütze aus den Resten meiner Handgesponnenen wolle, passend zur Wisteria Jacke. Nun stricke ich sie nochmal in gekaufter Wolle und schreibe eine kleine Anleitung..

Besides knitting the mitts I wanted something big, fun and knitting up really fast: a new beret done with the leftover handspun of wisteria. Now I will knit another one in a commercial yarn and write down the instruction…

Und weil die endpaper mitts fertig sind, brauchte ich ja noch was neues: Es sollen Fäustlinge (oder vielleicht auch Fingerhandschuhe) werden, bis jetzt aber noch nicht sehr weit fortgeschritten, in Wollmeise Löwenzahn & Single Malt:

Und sonst? Ich habe mein Zimmer für Sindelfingen gebucht (Jippeee!!!) und eine deutsche Wollmeisengruppe bei Ravelry gegründet. Sonst gibts nix neues.

What else? I booked a room in Sindelfingen (Wollmeise-market, YAY!) and started a German Wollmeise-group on Ravelry. That’s all  for this week.

 

H&H plus weekly update

Am Samstag fand ja die Handarbeit&Hobby Messe in Köln statt und da konnte ich natürlich nicht widerstehen mal vorbeizuschauen. Schauen ist auch genau richtig hier, denn verkauft wurde bis auf wenige Ausnahmen (ich habe Silberdraht zum Stricken erstanden!) nichts, das war aber auch garnicht tragisch. Mich macht es auch glücklich einfach nur mal zu sehen was es denn alles so gibt. Und neben den Ständen gabs dann auch eine Reihe von Ravelern, die den Eingang des Lana Grossa Stands verstopften. Es war schön, euch alle mal zu treffen! Ein paar Bilder habe ich auch gemacht, aber von meinem Handy kann man da nicht sehr viel erwarten..

On Saturday I visited the Handarbeit&Hobby (a craft&Hobby fair) in Cologne as it wasn’t that far away and thanks to being a student I can use public transport for free. As this fair is only for resellers there was nothing to buy (with a few exceptions: I got silver wire thin enough to knit with!) but it was still a great day just looking at all the new things. AND meeting a bunch of ravellers clogging the entrance of the Lana Grossa booth. Great to meet you all! I took a few photos but my handy hasn’t a good built in camera…

Mehrere Dinge musste ich dann festhalten: einen violetten Schal am Stand von Coats, gestrickt aus einem Garn das alle paar Meter die Eigenschaften wechselte (rüschig, glatt, matt, glänzend..). Ist mal eine gute Idee sowas mit Handgesponnener Wolle zu versuchen. Oder das Garn zu kaufen, zumal es ja in einer solch attraktiven Farbe erhältlich ist . Rechts daneben dann eine Neuheit bei Regia: Sockenwolle mit langem Farbverlauf. Besonders die grüne Farbvariante finde ich hübsch. Mal sehen, wann ich im LYS drüber stolpere. Als nächstes gibts wieder eine lieblingsfarbige Jacke, diesmal aber bei Online aus Linie 30/Cora gestrickt. Klar, die Farbe hat mich angelockt, aber ich mag auch den Schnitt. Entweder ich bin faul und suche nach der Anleitung oder ich investiere Gehirnschmalz, da muss ich mich noch entscheiden. Und Webrahmen/Webstühle habs da ja auch, sowohl von Ashford (unten rechts) als auch von einer anderen Firma deren Namen mir absolut garnix sagt. Nett anzuschaun, aber doch zu teuer und zu groß. Bei dem Ashford stand erwartete mich dann auch eine Kardiermaschne, mit kardierten Batts daneben und ich war seeeeehr hingerissen. Da kam dann schon so ein kleiner “Haben!!!”-Reflex, den ich aber mit einem Blick auf die Preisliste vorerst noch unterdrücken kann. Aber schon wäre es ja schon. Und zu guter letzt noch ein Bild von einem gefilzten Hut mit Zöpfen und ein Ausschnitt aus einem Quilt (im Rahmen einer Ausstellung zum Thema Quilten&Mathematik).

On the Photo above: a purple scarf on the Coats booth, knitted with a yarn changing it’s appearance every few yards (sparkling, shiny, with halo, with ruffles…). I’m planning to try something similar with my handspun (or just buy the yarn thanks for the pretty pretty purple). Next to it on the right: a new Regia yarn with noro-like coloring. I need to watch out for the green colorway. The purple cardigan on the photo one row below is done with a yarn of Online. I admit that the color draw me nearer but apart from that I like the construction of the garment. So I will search for the instruction or just try to work it out myself. Depends of my day-to-day lazyness. And there were looms! Both from ashford and another company which name I can’t remember as I never heard of it before. I love looking at these things (as I love to look at the big industrial weaving machines, they are moving so damn fast! Yes, I’m a tech geek. I admit it). Thanks for the price and the size of the ashford looms I could stay at a healthy distance. Next to it was a drum carder complete with carded batts sitting beside it. This time it was much harder to stay away and I couldn’t help asking for the price. Not exactly cheap, but such a great little machine! Maaaybe when I’m earning much money and don’t spent all my savings on wollmeise… . Last but not least a picture of a feltet hat with felted cords (what a great idea! I want to make one!) and a detail of a quilt (there was a small quilt exhibition on the topic of “Quilting and Math”).

Was die Yarnissima Socken angeht hatte ich ja erst geplant Kniestrümpfe draus zu machen, aber dann habe ich sie doch vorzeitig beendet. So kann ich sie öfter tragen und ich gebs ja zu, da kam die Faulheit durch. Dieses Projekt ist das mit Abstand längste WIP gewesen das ich jemals gehabt habe und so langsam wollte ich es von den Nadeln haben.

I originally planned to make Kneesocks out of the Yarnissima-Socks I was testknitting but then decided against it. Making them normal length is more universal so I can wear them more often. Okay, I damit that there was a bit of lazyness. This project was the longest WIP I ever had and I wanted to finish it.

Und auch meine Endpaper Mitts sind ein bischen gewachsen. Sie sind etwas groß *räusper*, aber so habe definitiv genug Platz meine Finger mit hineinzuquetschen wenn es wirklich kalt ist. Ich mache sie ja in doubleknitting und bei den Zunahmen bin ich noch nicht ganz zum Stein der Weisen vorgedrungen (die M1 Zunehmen sehen zwar nicht total unordentlich aus, aber es könnte besser sein). Hier mein Zwischenstand:

And here is the progress on my Endpaper Mitts. They are a bit big (erm, let’s call it roomy and don’t be so negative about it) but this makes it easier to get my fingers inside of them while wearing them and not needing my fingers to hold anything. I make them in doubleknitting and I still work on the technique. The M1 increase is okay but it doesn’t look as neat as I would with it to do. Maybe I will try a lifted increase a la cat bordhi on the second one.

Ja und sonst? Da gibts noch ein Beret das immernoch nicht ganz getrocknet ist und so noch bis zum Wochenende auf ein Photo warten muss. Und die Wolle die ich gewonnen habe ist angekommen:

Apart from that I’ve made a beret which is still damp and so has to wait until next weekend to get photographed. And the Sundara arrived which I had won!

Ich bin ja nicht so der Pastelltyp. Und auf den ersten Blick wars auch wirklich garnicht meins. Aber die Wolle an sich ist wirklich toll und ich werde schon ein passendes Projekt finden. Helle Farben sind ja immer gut um Zöpfe vernünftig zur Geltung kommen zu lassen. Mal sehen, vielleicht werden das irgendwann mal Handschuhe

Und nun stricke ich ein bischen weiter und beseitige hier mal ein bischen das Chaos….

I’m not a big fan of pastel colors and at the first glance I wasn’t overly excited. But the base yarn is great and I’m sure I will come up with the perfect project. Would be great to show off cables so a pair of gloves could be a good idea. We’ll see.

And now I will go on knitting and look after the chaos around me…

I love my purple wall…

This pic  is a accumulation of my weekend-knitting. 3 pairs of machineknitted socks (4 to be exact, but I missed taking a pic of one pair) and a beret (Gretel by Y. Teague) done with my handspun. The color reminds me of kale with potatoes. But I might get over this association. At least I hope so.

Contrary to what I expected the Schoppel Zauberball was no problem on the knitting machine! It being a single-yarn I kind of expect it to wear out soon, but maybe I’m wrong.

The Twisted Fiber Arts Arial sockyarn is a dream! I love the colors! Do I need to add that the colorway is called “Ravelry”?

Das Photo ist eine Zusammenfassung meines Wochenendstrickens: 3 Paar Maschinenstricksocken (eigentlich 4, aber eines wurde beim Photosmachen vergessen) und ein Beret (Gibts das auch auf Deutsch?) namens Gretel von Y. Teague. Letzteres aus meinem Handgesponnenen. Jedesmal wenn ich dieses Garn sehe, muss ich an Grünkohl mit Kartoffelbrei denken. Gehts da nur mir so? Als Kammzug sah das garnicht danach aus. Hoffentlich kann ich diese Assoziation bald abschütteln, denn so ganz geheuer ist mir das ja nicht.

Gegen meine Erwartungen war der Schoppel Zauberball kein Problem für die Strickmaschine. Das Garn ist ja ungezwirnt und auch nicht total gleichmäßig, trotzdem klappte es super. Nun muss mich das Garn nur noch überzeugen dass es auch was aushält und nicht sofort Löcher bekommt.

Das Sockengarn von Twisted Fiber Arts Arial ist einfach klasse! Ich liebe diese Farbe (muss ich erwähnen, dass die “Ravelry” heisst?). Wenns nicht so schwer zu kriegen wäre, könnte das auch wieder gefährlich werden mit den Wolleinkäufen.

Onto the current knitting projects: Still the Lederhosn socks (turned the heel, now on the leg), the never ending blanket (still avoiding sewing it up) and a new doubleknitting project (the endpaper mitts). No pics of the last one as I only started it a few hours ago and there isn’t enough light around here anymore.

News of the week: I GOT ACCEPTED! I’m soooo happy! I’ll get published in Twist Collective!

As I only arrived in the dorm an hour ago I still have a little unpacking work waiting for me so this post will end here. Sorry for this post being a bit short. But it has pictures, so everything is alright, isn’t it?

Bei den aktuellen Strickprojekten tummeln sich immernoch die Lederhosn-Socken (die Ferse ist fertig und ein Stück vom Bein), die immernoch in Einzelteilen weilende Decke und was ganz neues: nachdem die Tapestry-Cowl ja gut geklappt hat wollte ich mich nicht sofort an Fingerhandschuhen in Doppelstrick versuchen, sondern lieber erstmal fingerlose Handschuhe. Also sinds die Endpaper Mitts geworden. Mal sehen wie ich das mit dem Daumen mache, damit das Ding dann wirklich von beiden Seiten tragbar ist.

Und noch was: Das Twist Collective hat mein Design angenommen! Jipeeeeee!!!

Weil ich erst vor einer knappen Stunde im Wohnheim wieder angekommen bin muss ich jetzt noch ein bischen Sachen einräumen, deswegen mal wieder ein etwas kürzerer Post. Aber solange Photos drin sind, gehts ja noch

I got nominated for the Kreativ-Blogger Award: Thanks PNWBookGirl! But I won’t nominate someone specific. Thanks to the comment function it’s pretty easy to find out about other blogs by just clicking on the names of the people writing something in response to a post. I don’t feel like picking a few and presenting them here. If I like to read a blog I will comment on it, so the person knows that I’m reading it. No offense meant, this is just how I feel about this award-thing. It’s a personal decision of mine not to post awards on here, as well as these “I’m like [actor/popstar/animal/whatever]! To know what you are, make the questoinaire!”. I know who I am and I don’t need a test to confirm what I already know. I’m sure that most of them are more of a joke than anything else, but this kind of humor isn’t my piece of cake.

Ich habe von PNWBookGirl einen Kreativ Blogger Award bekommen. Erstmal vielen Dank dafür. Jedoch werde ich dieses Nominierungsprozedere hier nicht weiterführen, weil ich den Sinn nicht so ganz verstehe. Neue Blogs zu finden ist durch die Kommentarfunktion sehr einfach geworden, weil man unter einem Posting dann Kommentare von anderen Bloginhaberinnen findet. Und die Leute deren Blogs ich regelmäßig lese merken das meist sowieso daran, dass ich Kommentare hinterlasse. Da erschliesst sich mir nicht so ganz, warum es noch einen Award braucht. Ich beömmele mich ja auch immer über diese ganzen Film/Musik ect. Awards bei denen sich dann die jeweiligen Berufsgruppen selbst beweihräuchern. Ich will hier niemanden angreifen, das ist einfach nur meine Sicht der Dinge. Ähnlich verhält es sich mit diesen “Ich bin [Schauspieler/Star/Tier/was auch immer]! Wenn du wissen willst was du bist, clicke hier und beantworte die Fragen”. Ich bin mir bis jetzt recht sicher dass ich weiss wer ich bin und da brauche ich keine Bestätigung mehr. Klar, das meiste ist eher scherzhaft gemeint, aber meinen Humor trifft sowas einfach nicht.

Mit der Strickmaschine: Hier gabs noch ein paar Kniestrümpfe, diesmal aber etwas enger damit sie nach ein paar Schritten laufen immernoch da sitzen wo ich sie anfangs hingezogen habe. Gestrickt aus Regia und Drachenwolle:

On hand knitting: Wisteria is done! Yesterday I secured the steek-stitches by a line of machine zigzag stitching and then cut the front in half. Thanks to the slighty fuzzy yarn the stitches didn’t unravel at all. Then I machine stitched the zipper to the front and added a twill facing to cover the raw edge. After that I attached the collar facing and this is the result: (unblocked)

Und nun zum Handstricken: Wisteria ist fertig geworden! Gestern habe ich den Steek mit 2 Reihen Zickzackstich mit der Nähmaschine befestigt und dann zwischen den beiden Nahtlinien hergeschnitten. Anschließend kam der Reißverschluss ebenfalls mit der Nähmaschine hinein und noch ein Stück Köperband als Blende dran. Diese habe ich dann sogar von Hand (ich bin ja doch recht faul was Handnähen angeht) umgeschlagen und anstaffiert. Hier ist meine neue Jacke, bis jetzt noch nicht gespannt:

I think my version is much more fitted than what the Designer intended the sweater to be, but I like it this way because these boxy kind of shapes arenn’t too flattering for my figure. Another advantage of making it more fitted: I have enough yarn left over to make a matching hat. Yes, you didn’t misread anything, a hat. I’m not a big had-.knitter because I look like a dork wearing them, but I won’t give up hope to find a pattern which will look good on my head. I thought of something like a beret with the wisteria cable pattern on it.

“Meine” Wisteria ist deutlich figurbetonter geworden als es das Strickmuster vorsieht, aber solche Kastenformen sind einfach nichts für mich. Vorteilhaft ist daran auch, dass ich noch genug Wolle für eine Mütze übrig habe. Nein, kein Schreibfehler, ich sagte “Mütze”. Grundsätzlich sehe ich mit Mützen aus wie ein Idiot, aber vielleicht findet sich ja doch noch etwas passendes? Sowas wie ein Beret mit dem Wisteria-Zopfmuster rund herum fände ich ja doch ganz schön dazu. Aber ob ich dass dann auch trage?

Wisteria being finished I started thinking about the next sweater. Maybe snow-white by Ysolda Teague? I have enough cascade 220 superwash (both in black and purple) to make this one. I purchased the pattern a few months ago and I think it could look good on me. Another possibility is designing a sweater myself. Would be the first time to do so and because of that quite riscy (ripping it all out again when noticing that it looks not at all like I had imagined).

Und da Wisteria nun fertig ist, beginnen die Planungen für einen neuen Pullover. Vielleicht Snow White von Ysolda Teague? Genug Cascade 220 superwash hätte ich, sowohl in schwarz als auch in lila. Das Strickmuster habe ich schon vor längerer Zeit gekauft und ich denke es könnte ganz gut aussehen. Die andere Möglichkeit wäre natürlich mal einen Pullover selber zu designen, aber das birgt auch das Risiko das Ding dann wieder zu ribbeln weil es mein Erstlingswerk auf dem Breich wäre und vielleicht doch reichlich missraten aussehen würde.

Today was the first back to work/the lab day. I wasn’t too happy to pack all my things and leave Henry yesterday, but this is just how it is right now and I can’t change this situation. And after nearly 7 years of driving to and fro between the city where the university is (or where my school was in the past) and his hometown I got used to it.

Heute war mein erster Arbeitstag nach den 2 Wochen Urlaub und gestern meine ganzen Sachen zusammenzupacken und wieder Richtung Wohnheim zu fahren war nicht wirklich toll. Aber momentan lässt sich an der Situation nichts ändern und nach mittlerweile fast 7 Jahren hin- und herfahren mit zwei “zuhauses” gewöhnt man sich auch dran.

 

I’m not lazy!!

.. well, maaybe a tiny bit when it comes to blogging. Don’t mention my plans to post every few days now that I don’t need to be at the university.  Well, as I’ve been there for 2 days and will have to go again tomorrow (people from France coming to talk about ways to write a dissertation in a cooperation with their university)  my premise is wrong and I don’t need to feel bad about not behaving like I planned

Ich war ja doch etwas faul, zumindest was das Bloggen angeht. Erinnert mich bloß nicht an meine Pläne hier öfter was zu posten jetzt wo ich frei habe. Aber das beruhte ja auch auf meiner Annahme eben nicht an der Uni zu sein. Tja, das war aber nicht so, denn 2 Tage war ich bis jetzt schon da, und morgen muss ich auch nochmal hin, weil eine Delegation einer Uni aus Frankreich kommt, um zu besprechen inwieweit eine Promotion als Kooperation mit ihnen möglich ist. Deswegen stimmt ja schon die Grundannahme nicht und deswegen muss ich auch garkein schlechtes Gewissen habe hier nicht so viel geschrieben zu haben.

In the meantime I’ve played a little more with the knittingmachine. I think I mentioned my problems with knitting half-round before (pushers getting pushed out of the bed with their feet…). It’s working now! Not that all the machine cleaning was of any use: I tried it again afterwards and the carriage still got the pushers partly out of the bed. Then I thought a bit and came to the conclusion that a bit brute force wouldn’t be that dangerous. The only thing which could break (pushers/needles) are not that expensive and I wasn’t looking forward to paying someone to take a look at the machine only to do the same and then ask my why I never tried. So I pulled at the carriage (some not so friendly sounds coming from the machine) and it moved! After a few rows it worked smooth as nothing! I’m amazed. So I immediately needed to knit something using this “new” feature. But as all the squares for the blanket are done the only useful project coming to my mind was socks. But socks aren’t half-round. So I peeked in the manual and saw that fair-isle like patterns also need this pusher thing. Here is the result: (with vertical stripes using the pushers + BX <-)

In der Zwischenzeit habe ich mich wieder etwas mit der Strickmaschine beschäftigt. Ich hatte ja mal erwähnt, dass ich beim halbrundstricken nicht weiter kam weil der Schlitten stecken blieb und die Stößer aus der Maschine herauszog. Tja, nun klappts! Nicht dass mein Säuberungs+Öl-Marathon da irgendwie geholfen hätte den ich deshalb gestartet hatte: danach wars genauso wie vorher. Ich habe es einfach nochmal mit 10 Nadeln/Stößern ausprobiert und als der Schlitten wieder klemmte, habe ich die etwas roheren Kräfte walten lassen (= wie eine Irre dran gezerrt). Was soll da schon groß kaputtgehen ausser ein paar Nadeln? Es hätte mich schon geärgert jemanden zu holen um den Fehler zu finden nur damit er das selbe macht und dann sagt: und wo ist das Problem? Und  nach einigen unfreundlichen Geräuschen ging das Schloss über die Stößer! Nach ein paar Reihen sogar richtig leicht. Ich bin beeindruckt. Merke: manchmal kann Gewalt ganz nützlich sein . Natürlich musste ich dann diese Option sofort in einem Strickstück verwirklichen. Ja und nützlich sollte es sein. Da die Decke aber nun fertig ist, blieben da nur Socken… die ja bekanntlich nicht halbrund sind. Also habe ich mal einen Blick ins Handbuch geworfen und gesehen, dass für fair-isle Muster das auch benutzt werden muss. Und hier ist das Ergebnis (mit vertikalen Streifen dank des Stößerwechsels mit BX <-).

The next thing I did was knee-stockings. After calculating all the numbers I … chose green again.

Als nächstes kamen dann Kniestrümpfe (ohne Stößer, daber dafür mit Streifen). Nachdem ich dann erstmal eine Maschenprobe gestrickt habe und ein bischen gerechnet habe, wurde es wieder grün…

I used 100g of each color and I love the way they turned out. I often wear boots in the winter and knee-stockings are perfect to line them so than my legs won’t get cold. They fit okay ( I used as a guideline 10% negative ease) but they could be a bit more snug on the calves. What a perfect starting point for a second pair, isn’t it? Once again stiped (there is nothing better than stripe socks!), but this time in purple/black. No pics as they are waiting go get sewn up this evening. This is the only disadvantage of making striped socks on the machine: I can’t do the striped parts in the round (at least I haven’t found a way. If anyone knows how to prevent that the unused color is floating on the outside of the sock please tell me so, I will be thankful forever) so they are worked flat and sewn together later. And this can take a loooong time for such a long stocking.

Insgesamt brauchte es 100g von jeder Farbe und ich finde die Kniestrümpfe toll. Ich habe im Winter gerne hohe Stiefel an und Kniestrümpfe sind perfekt um diese von innen etwas kuscheliger zu machen. Der Sitz ist ganz okay (ich habe mich an -10% Weite gehalten), könnten aber doch etwas enger um die Waden sein. Und das ist ja ein guter Startpunkt für ein neues Paar, oder? Auch wieder gestreift (habe ich schonmal erwähnt dass ich Streifen-Fan bin?) aber diesmal in schwarz/violett. Leider noch unphotographiert da ich sie bis jetzt noch nicht zugenäht habe. Wo wir schon beim Nachteil von Streifensocken auf der Maschine wären: die müssen flach gestrickt werden (wenn irgendwer weiss wie es rund geht: bitte melden!) und nachträglich zusammengenäht werden. Und bei einem Kniestrumpf dauert das dann schon ein bischen…

On Wisteria: After knitting nearly the whole body I tried it on and it was huuuuuge. As my gauge was off by 1 stitch to 10cm I chose size S (me being more of an M). On the pictures it does look quite loose but not like the thing I got. So I ripped back to the yoke and decreased, decreased, decreased (…) and went on with the pattern. Thanks to numberous increases in the yoke it isn’t flat on my back/where my shoulderblades are. I think I should have skipped one increase in the pattern but I didn’t wanted to rip back. Currently I’m working on the first sleeve (nearly finished) and hope to get it done till the weekend. Maybe I won’t thanks to being to the university again tomorrow

Und nun zu Wisteria: Nachdem ich fast den ganzen Rumpf gestrickt hatte, habe ich das Dingens mal anprobiert und es war viiiiel zu weit. Da meine Maschenprobe um eine Masche auf 10 cm zu grob war, habe ich Größe S gestrickt obwohl mir sonst eher M passt. Auf den Photos in der Anleitung sieht der Pulli ja schon recht weit aus, aber so weit?? Also habe ich bis zur Passe alles wieder aufgeribbelt und abgenommen, abgenommen….. und habe weitergestrickt. Leider habe ich dank der vielen Zunahmen in der Passe leichte Beulen im Rückenteil/auf Höher meiner Schulterblätter, wollte aber nicht bis zum Kragen zurückribbeln. Das wird schon beim Spannen. Ich hoffe ja das ganze bis zum Wochenende fertig zu bekommen, obwohl mein Uni-Besuch morgen das erschweren könnte…

Aaaand I got my first Twisted Fiber Art!! Woohooo! I stalked the site for a long time but never was lucky. Thanks to a fellow raveler I now have a skein of Arial in one of my favorite colorways (if someone wants to get rid of a skein in Firefly, contact me!): Ravelry!

Und nun zu einem wolligen Neuzugang: mein erster Strang Twisted Fiber Art! Ich habe lange Versucht ein Update zu erwischen aber hatte nie Glück. Und nun habe ich dank einer anderen Ravelry-Userin einen Strang Arial in einer meiner Lieblingsfarben bekommen: Ravelry (nun suche ich nur noch nach einem Strang in Firefly)

I donated money to the red cross and got in the darwing of Serendipity’s Bushfire Appeal thinking that I would never ever win something. But I was wrong! I will get a skein of Sundara! My first Sundara Can’t wait to get it in the mail!

I habe Geld an das australische Rote Kreuz gespendet und kam deswegen in Serendipity’s Bushfire Appeal Verlosung. Ich hätte ja nicht damit gerechnet da irgendwas zu gewinnen, doch ich hatte Glück! Bald wird ein Strang Sundara bei mir einziehen!

Holiday report #1

Ich hatte mir ja vorgenommen jetzt wo ich frei habe etwas häufiger hier was zu posten, klappt aber doch nicht so richtig. Meist warte ich dann doch wieder so lange, bis sich ein Haufen an Neuem gesammelt hat.

Fertig geworden ist….

Originally I had planned to post more regularly now that I don’t need to spend the day in the lab. Well, didn’t worked out. I still wait until things pile up…

First of all, the FO of this week:

Tapestry Cowl

This was such a fun knit! To see the colors building up the design row by row was entertaining and I just kept knitting saying that “I will knit only one more row and then go on to do other things”. Suddenly the piece was finished

Das ist ein Teil, bei dem mir das Stricken wahnsinnig Spaß gemacht hat. Zu sehen wie das Muster langsam wächst was so spannend dass ich mir immer gesagt habe: “nur noch eine Reihe, dann hörst du auf für heute”. Tja, waren dann doch ein paar mehr.

Along the way I started knitting Wisteria. Great pattern but my idea to make a really dense fabric to keep the wind out hurts my hands when I’m knitting more than one or two rows.

Und nebenbei habe ich dann mit Wisteria angefangen. Leider mögen meine Hände es garnicht so ein windundurchlässiges Wollbrett zu stricken: nach ein paar Reihe tun mir meine Finger weh.

The collar is done and I’m in the middle of the yoke chart. I used the JMBC instead of a long-tail cast on so that I have live stitches on the top of the collar to use for the facing when the rest is done. My first steeking-project! Thanks to the quite fuzzy wool I think it will work well without unraveling any stitches.

Der Kragen ist fertig und ich bin gerade mitten in den Raglanzunahmen. Wie auf dem Photo vielleicht zu sehen habe ich oben die Maschen nicht mit einem Kreuzanschlag aufgenommen sondern mit einem JBMC/Figure 8 damit ich nachher noch eine Blende dranstricken kann. Mein erstes Steekingprojekt! Gut das die Wolle nicht so glatt ist

Another wip: the blanket. All the knitting is done! 80 squares out of a big heap of knitpicks palette and nearly half of them already blocked to unroll the edges a bit. Have I mentioned that I’m not so happy about all the sewing lying ahead? Here are the blocked squares:

Auch noch in Arbeit: die Decke. Es ist Fertiggestrickt! Alle 80 Quadrate liegen hier und mehr als die Hälfte ist schon gespannt damit sich die Ränder nicht mehr so arg rollen. Das wird beim Zusammennähen noch lustig. Hier der schon gespannte Haufen:

As with most of you the rate I use up wool is pretty much the same (or even smaller) than the rate of my wooly purchases. Being at a LYS in Aachen wasn’t of any help to reduce my stash.

Und wie das ja bei den meisten ist: wenn man Wolle verstrickt, kauft man auch welche. Dass ich letzte Woche im Wolltreffer in Aachen war, hat da natürlich auch zu beigetragen.

And this is pretty much all I purchased and knitted in the last days. No spinning since my last posting. As the testknitting on Yarnissimas zur Lederhosn restarted a few days ago this propably won’t change in the next week.

Und sonst? Nee, mehr gestrickt oder gekauft habe ich nicht. Und gesponnen habe ich seit dem letzten Posting auch nur ein paar Meter. Zudem hat das Lederhosn Teststricken für Yarnissima wieder angefangen und so wird sich das wohl auch in der nächsten Woche nicht ändern.
