A post with purple.

I got nominated for the Kreativ-Blogger Award: Thanks PNWBookGirl! But I won’t nominate someone specific. Thanks to the comment function it’s pretty easy to find out about other blogs by just clicking on the names of the people writing something in response to a post. I don’t feel like picking a few and presenting them here. If I like to read a blog I will comment on it, so the person knows that I’m reading it. No offense meant, this is just how I feel about this award-thing. It’s a personal decision of mine not to post awards on here, as well as these “I’m like [actor/popstar/animal/whatever]! To know what you are, make the questoinaire!”. I know who I am and I don’t need a test to confirm what I already know. I’m sure that most of them are more of a joke than anything else, but this kind of humor isn’t my piece of cake.

Ich habe von PNWBookGirl einen Kreativ Blogger Award bekommen. Erstmal vielen Dank dafür. Jedoch werde ich dieses Nominierungsprozedere hier nicht weiterführen, weil ich den Sinn nicht so ganz verstehe. Neue Blogs zu finden ist durch die Kommentarfunktion sehr einfach geworden, weil man unter einem Posting dann Kommentare von anderen Bloginhaberinnen findet. Und die Leute deren Blogs ich regelmäßig lese merken das meist sowieso daran, dass ich Kommentare hinterlasse. Da erschliesst sich mir nicht so ganz, warum es noch einen Award braucht. Ich beömmele mich ja auch immer über diese ganzen Film/Musik ect. Awards bei denen sich dann die jeweiligen Berufsgruppen selbst beweihräuchern. Ich will hier niemanden angreifen, das ist einfach nur meine Sicht der Dinge. Ähnlich verhält es sich mit diesen “Ich bin [Schauspieler/Star/Tier/was auch immer]! Wenn du wissen willst was du bist, clicke hier und beantworte die Fragen”. Ich bin mir bis jetzt recht sicher dass ich weiss wer ich bin und da brauche ich keine Bestätigung mehr. Klar, das meiste ist eher scherzhaft gemeint, aber meinen Humor trifft sowas einfach nicht.

On machine knitting: Kneesocks in black Regia and Drachenwolle. Made them a bit more fitted than the last pair and they stay up much better. Here they are:

Mit der Strickmaschine: Hier gabs noch ein paar Kniestrümpfe, diesmal aber etwas enger damit sie nach ein paar Schritten laufen immernoch da sitzen wo ich sie anfangs hingezogen habe. Gestrickt aus Regia und Drachenwolle:

On hand knitting: Wisteria is done! Yesterday I secured the steek-stitches by a line of machine zigzag stitching and then cut the front in half. Thanks to the slighty fuzzy yarn the stitches didn’t unravel at all. Then I machine stitched the zipper to the front and added a twill facing to cover the raw edge. After that I attached the collar facing and this is the result: (unblocked)

Und nun zum Handstricken: Wisteria ist fertig geworden! Gestern habe ich den Steek mit 2 Reihen Zickzackstich mit der Nähmaschine befestigt und dann zwischen den beiden Nahtlinien hergeschnitten. Anschließend kam der Reißverschluss ebenfalls mit der Nähmaschine hinein und noch ein Stück Köperband als Blende dran. Diese habe ich dann sogar von Hand (ich bin ja doch recht faul was Handnähen angeht) umgeschlagen und anstaffiert. Hier ist meine neue Jacke, bis jetzt noch nicht gespannt:

I think my version is much more fitted than what the Designer intended the sweater to be, but I like it this way because these boxy kind of shapes arenn’t too flattering for my figure. Another advantage of making it more fitted: I have enough yarn left over to make a matching hat. Yes, you didn’t misread anything, a hat. I’m not a big had-.knitter because I look like a dork wearing them, but I won’t give up hope to find a pattern which will look good on my head. I thought of something like a beret with the wisteria cable pattern on it.

“Meine” Wisteria ist deutlich figurbetonter geworden als es das Strickmuster vorsieht, aber solche Kastenformen sind einfach nichts für mich. Vorteilhaft ist daran auch, dass ich noch genug Wolle für eine Mütze übrig habe. Nein, kein Schreibfehler, ich sagte “Mütze”. Grundsätzlich sehe ich mit Mützen aus wie ein Idiot, aber vielleicht findet sich ja doch noch etwas passendes? Sowas wie ein Beret mit dem Wisteria-Zopfmuster rund herum fände ich ja doch ganz schön dazu. Aber ob ich dass dann auch trage?

Wisteria being finished I started thinking about the next sweater. Maybe snow-white by Ysolda Teague? I have enough cascade 220 superwash (both in black and purple) to make this one. I purchased the pattern a few months ago and I think it could look good on me. Another possibility is designing a sweater myself. Would be the first time to do so and because of that quite riscy (ripping it all out again when noticing that it looks not at all like I had imagined).

Und da Wisteria nun fertig ist, beginnen die Planungen für einen neuen Pullover. Vielleicht Snow White von Ysolda Teague? Genug Cascade 220 superwash hätte ich, sowohl in schwarz als auch in lila. Das Strickmuster habe ich schon vor längerer Zeit gekauft und ich denke es könnte ganz gut aussehen. Die andere Möglichkeit wäre natürlich mal einen Pullover selber zu designen, aber das birgt auch das Risiko das Ding dann wieder zu ribbeln weil es mein Erstlingswerk auf dem Breich wäre und vielleicht doch reichlich missraten aussehen würde.

Today was the first back to work/the lab day. I wasn’t too happy to pack all my things and leave Henry yesterday, but this is just how it is right now and I can’t change this situation. And after nearly 7 years of driving to and fro between the city where the university is (or where my school was in the past) and his hometown I got used to it.

Heute war mein erster Arbeitstag nach den 2 Wochen Urlaub und gestern meine ganzen Sachen zusammenzupacken und wieder Richtung Wohnheim zu fahren war nicht wirklich toll. Aber momentan lässt sich an der Situation nichts ändern und nach mittlerweile fast 7 Jahren hin- und herfahren mit zwei “zuhauses” gewöhnt man sich auch dran.

 

One of my new years resolutions…

… was aimed at learning new knitting techniques. This week (the first week of my 2-week holidays, woohooo!) I started my first doubleknitting project: the tapestry cowl. I wanted to start with a piece in a manageable size and in fingering weight because of all the Wollmeise yarn in my stash so it was exactly what I had searched for. I always thought that doubleknitting is complicated but is quite easy! What especially speaks to me is that there is no wrong side with floats (unlike stranded knitting). Maybe this could be perfect for a colorwork scarf? And what about doubleknitted mittens or gloves?

Einer meiner Neujahrsvorsätze zielte darauf ab, dass ich auch mal neue Stricktechniken ausprobiere. Und so habe ich meine 2-wöchigen Semesterferien mit einem Doubleknitting-Projekt eingeläutet: die Tapestry Cowl. Für den Anfang wollte ich etwas in einer bewältigbaren Größe, möglichst aus Sockenwolle um Wollmeisen dafür nutzen zu können und so kam mir das Muster gerade richtig. Ich dachte ja immer dass Doubleknitting kompliziert sei, aber es ist eigentlich ziemlich einfach! Für mich sogar einfacher als fair isle, weil man da keine Probleme mit der Fadenspannung hat. Und überhaupt sieht hier ja auch die Rückseite viel schöner aus. Und schon geistert mir ein Schal und Handschuhe mit dieser Technik im Kopf herum….

The striped blanket also grew a little: 33 of 100 squares done. Seems that I can reach my goal of finishing the knitting in the next two weeks….

Before I go on explaining what the point is with the title of this post: spinning update!

All the yarn for wisteria is done!!

Bevor ich näher darauf eingehe wie der Titel dieses Posts zustande kommt, erstmal ein Update was meine Spinnerei angeht:

This was the first time for me to spin up such a huge amount of yarn. Most of my spinning projects get done in a weekend and so this was the first project going on about a few weeks. I’m impressed by the similar yardage of the yarns! Originally I was aiming for worsted but the wool turned out to be more aran/bulky. We’ll see how it’s knitting up.

Ich hätte garnicht gedacht, dass ich über Wochen hinweg eine so konsistente Lauflänge hinbekomme. Es ist definitiv eher aran /bulky, aber es wird schon irgendwie klappen.

Und gestrickt habe ich auch, wenn auch hauptsächlich mit der Maschine:

3 paar Socken, zwei davon gestrickt aus Wolle von Dibadu. Schaut mal vorbei, da finden sich seeehr schöne Farben!

Und außerdem habe ich  nun mit meiner Decke aus KnitPicks Palette angefangen. Bis jetzt…

Und wer hier schon länger liest wird sich jetzt wundern, denn ursprünglich wollte ich eigentlich solche “Ecken” in den Quadraten haben (Mitered Square Blanket-artig), doch es war mir einfach zu unruhig. Also habe ich mich für Streifen entschieden. Mal sehen wie lange ich für’s zusammennähen brauchen werde. Ich sehe es schon kommen: Strickzeit ca. 2 Wochen, Zeit fürs Zusammennähen ca. ein Jahr.

For all of you longtime readers: yes, my design for this blanket has changed. I started thinking that the Mitered Square Blanket in the Mason Dixon book would be great but after looking at my preview pic for a long time I decided that all the colors made me dizzy in that pattern. So I went with simple stripes. Might get the knitting finished in the next 2-3 weeks (thanks for the holidays), but sewing all the squares up will take… Long. Very Long. Even Longer.

Und nun zur Auflösung was ich mit dem Titel sagen will: (seid gewarnt, das ist ne längere Geschichte. Aber ihr seid ja zum lesen hier, hm?).

Ich bin nicht so der Hundemensch. Katzen sinds eher. So stehe ich den hechelnden Halbwölfen immer leicht kritisch gegenüber, vor allem wenn sie mir unangeleint gegenüber stehen. Kurz nachdem wir umgezogen waren wurde es mir schon klar: hier gibts Erziehungsprobleme. Morgens hörte man öfter “SPIIIIKKEEEE!!! KOMM SOFORT HIERHIN!! SPIKE! JETZT ABER WIRKLICH!”. Nach einigen Tagen dieses morgendlichen Kreischkonzerts war ich ja doch neugierig und linste aus dem Fenster:  Auf Krücken gehende Halterin mit großem unangeleintem Hund der tendenziell immer auf der Flucht vor seiner Halterin war (obwohl man das garnicht Halterin nennen kann, denn sie hat da nix gehalten, weder den Hund noch die Leine). Gut, einmal gegrinst und zu interessanteren Dingen gewechselt. Ein paar Tage später hatte es etwas gestürmt und als ich morgens zu meinem Auto ging lag ein recht dicker Ast halb drunter der nicht so aussah als “einfach drüberfahren” eine brilliante Idee wäre. Also bücke ich mich, nehme den Ast und was ist? Auf einmal rennt dieses Riesentier kläffend auf mich zu. Auch wenn Hunde nicht meine Seelenverwandten sind wars mir doch klar, dass Spike tatsächlich dachte, dass ich jetzt mit ihm spiele. TOLL. Riesenhund schnappt halb nach dem Ast, Julia bekommt Muffensausen und lässt den Ast erstmal fallen. Hund schnappt sich den Ast und haut ihn gegen mein Auto. Schramme im Lack (ist nicht die einzige, daher jetzt kein großes Drama an sich, aber trotzdem war es nicht stimmungssteigernd). Kein einziges Wort von der Halterin, die zu diesem Zeitpunkt immernoch zig Meter entfernt war. Auf mein schon leicht gereiztes Rufen, warum der Hund nicht an der Leine ist wenn er es nicht lassen kann hundophobische Passanten zu belästigen kam ein “der tut doch garnichts, der ist doch lieb!”. Das interessierte mich in diesem Moment eigentlich recht wenig, denn es ging mir eher darum, dass ich nicht von so einem Tier bedrängt werden will, und mein Auto wollte das auch nicht.

Und heute morgen passierte das schon wieder! Diesmal zwar ohne Ast + Schramme im Auto, aber dafür weiss ich jetzt, dass er prinzipiell auf mich zurennt, egal ob mit Spielzeug oder ohne. Klar, die Hundehalter unter euch werden jetzt sagen “na und?”, aber ich finde das grob unfreundlich. Ich will nicht von Hunden die bis zu meiner Hüfte reichen bedrängt werden. Und da ist es mir auch egal, ob der total lieb ist.

And now the explanation for the title: (be warned, that’s a rather long story)

I’m not a big dogperson. Cat’s are okay but dogs not that much. To be honest, the big ones running around unleashed scare me. Not long after we moved I was pretty sure that there were people in the streets needing a few lessons in dog training: “SPIIIKKKEEEE!!! COME HERE!!! SPIKE!”. After a few days hearing this while knitting or spinning I couldn’t hold back and took a look out of the window: The owner standing with crutches on the sidewalk, screaming at her unleashed and quite big dog running straight into some garden. Well, I went back to what I’ve been doing. A few days afterwards there was a storm and when I wanted to go shopping there was a rather big branch under my car. Definitely to big to just ignore it. So I bent down, grabbed the piece of wood and when I looked up again I saw the dog running to me, barking like mad. Even for me not-so-dog-experienced-person it was rather obvious that Spike thought that I would throw the branch away for him to catch it. GREAT. In the next second he tried to snatch it from me. I got scared and dropped it on the ground. Spike grabs the branch, pulls it up and scratches my car with it. As my car has already had a few scratches from various other things this was not such a big deal in general, but it still didn’t made me any happier in this moment. And believe it or not: not a single word from the owner! She was just standing there seeing me trying to get some distance between me&my car and her dog. When I asked her why she would let her dog walk around unleashed when it is obvious that he would disturb random dogophobic people the only thing she said was “he won’t do you any harm! He’s a good boy!”. To be honest, this wasn’t the point for me. I don’t care if this dog would do me any harm, I just don’t want to have him standing before me that close without his owner having any control at all over this animal.

And today it happened again! No branch this time, just me going to my car. So it seems that Spike will chase me regardless of me having a toylike thing in my hand or not. Maybe the dogowners will now shrug their shoulders and won’t understand why I’m making a fuss out of this, but I just want to get over the street without having a huge dog running behind me. Especially if the dog exceeds my hip-level.

 

Sheep!

First of all, I finally managed to get the poster I bought at an exhibition last year glued on thin plywood. I first looked for a frame, but the prices were.. impressive ( it needed to be at least 84 x 120cm and the cheapest one was about 150 euros..). Here it is:

( to the right is an oil painting I did a few years ago. Not the perfect match for the sheep and it might seem a bit depressive, but I don’t take it that serious. As I have painted it myself the way I see it is just a bit different . Maybe I will share a few more pics of the paintings I’ve done here in the future)

Endlich habe ich es fertig gebracht, das Poster was ich auf einer Ausstellung letztes Jahr gekauft habe aufziehen zu lassen. Erst wollte ich ja einen Rahmen kaufen, aber in der Größe (mind. 84cm x 120cm) gab es nichts unter 150 euro. Somit schied diese Möglichkeit aus. Und bis ich dann einen Laden gefunden hatte, der Poster aufzieht (Hornbach machte es nämlich genau ab der Woche als ich dort hineinspazierte um nachzufragen nicht mehr. Grrr), verging doch etwas Zeit. Und so sieht nun meine Spinnecke aus:

Passt nicht wirklich zum Poster und sieht vielleicht etwas… depressiv aus, aber ich nehme das nicht so ernst, ich habe es ja selber gemalt *g*, da hat man eine etwas andere Beziehung zu seltsamen Motiven. Vielleicht poste ich ja mal ein paar Photos von weiteren Bildern hier…)

On Spinning: 2/3 of the yarn for wisteria is done! I’m still hesitant about what I will do to make it a cardigan (steeking would also be an option).

Wo wir gerade beim Spinnen/halbgerupften Schafen sind: 2/3 des Garns das ich für Wisteria brauche sind nun fertig! Ich bin mir immernoch nicht sicher, wie ich das Muster abändere um eine Jacke draus zu machen (vielleicht steeking?), aber das schaffe ich auch noch…

Die Fuzzy Feet für Henry haben dieses Wochenende noch eine Latexsole bekommen. Und dann dauerte es auch nicht lange, bis sie sich an seinen Füßen wiederfanden. Er scheint sie zu mögen

 

That’s me…

Next week my exams start and what am I doing the whole weekend? No, no learning. Okay, almost none. But only a tiny bit. Who is to blame? The Wheel. After buying enough wool to make at least one Wisteria sweater (1200g!) in 3 colors (medium purple/dark purple/black) I just needed to start spinning. And after 3 bobbins were filled up with 150g of singles each asking me to wait until next weekend to ply them was just not an option. So I also plied them, resulting in:

Das war mal wieder typisch für mich. Nächste Woche fangen die Klausuren an und ich habe mal wieder alles zutun, aber lernen? Och neee. Vielleicht ein bischen, aber ja nicht zu viel. Und warum ist das so? Weil ich beschlossen habe Wisteria zu stricken, und zwar aus handgesponnener Wolle.  Also habe ich bei der Wollfabrik erstmal einen Berg Wolle gekauft (1200g!), und zwar in 3 verschiedenen Farben: violett, dunkelviolett und schwarz. Und da konnte ich natürlich nicht warten und lernend neben meinem Spinnrad sitzen, wenn ich genauso gut mit der Wolle in der Hand davor sitzen könnte. Tja, und so füllten sich 3 Spulen mit jeweils 150g. Die Zeit verflog, weg war sie, nie wieder gesehen. Und bis zum nächsten Wochenende mit dem Zwirnen warten, weil es schon 4 ist und ich doch noch lernen wollte? Nein, das geht nicht. Also auch noch gezwirnt. Und hier ist das Ergebnis:

The yarn gets to 7 wpi and is actually a bit bulkier than the pattern asks for. But as I plan to make a cardigan out of wisteria which should keep me warm I don’t think that it would be a problem. As a cardigan the resulting stiffness in the fabric won’t hurt, maybe it is even a pro because the wind will have it harder to get through.  And now I’m asking for your advice: I want to use a zipper as closure but I’m not sure about how much fabric on the edge is needed to fold down nicely and sew the zipper on. Any recommendations?

Die Wolle liegt so bei 7 wpi, ist also etwas dicker geraten als das im Original verwendete Garn. Und das ist noch nichtmal schlecht, denn ich hatte sowieso geplant aus dem Pullover eine Jacke zu machen. Dort ist es natülich eher praktisch, wenn das Gestrick etwas dichter ist, sonst pfeift es da ja wieder so durch. Und nun brauche ich noch einen Rat von euch: Ich überlege die ganze Zeit, wieviele Maschen ich an den Vorderteilen brauche (zum umklappen und Reißverschluss annähen). Hat da jemand Erfahrungswerte?

… another thing which got into my mind this week: why are there so few knitting magazines offering digital subscriptions? I heard of The Knitter offering it, but couldn’t find any other mayor magazine (thinking of IK or Vogue). Why? This is the perfect way to get hold of american knitting magazines without paying for the postage!

Und nun noch zu was Anderem: Warum gibt es so wenige digitale Abos bei Strickzeitschriften? Ich habe letztens davon gehört, dass The Knitter sowas anbietet, aber bei IK und Vogue habe ich nichts zu dem Thema gefunden. Wäre ja eigentlich die perfekte Möglichkeit Porto zu sparen.

Hands on!

In the mail on Saturday….

..tiny tiny Hands for a future glove design. I thought about making a pattern for children’s gloves but as I don’t have small children at hand to model them and crappy pictures can be a huge problem I bought them on ebay. It could be hard to get the cuff over the hands, but I will solve this problem. Maybe I will knit one glove with a split cuff (flat) and sew it on the hand. We’ll see.

This weekend I spun a bit. This time it’s Alpaca. I love the feel of the fiber (it reminds be a bit of human hair), even it being now everywhere. The moment I pulled it out of the zipperbag the fibers started to infiltrate the whole flat.

About 200g, and maaaybe 400m, but to be honest I really can’t say. I plan to buy a niddynoddy tomorrow and reskein it. My little plastik swift isn’t working that well and the skeins always look not as neat as I want them to look.

 

FOs and personal stats

I realized that I forgot to post photos of a bunch of FOs, both spinning, sewing and knitting (if someone is interested in what yarn/pattern I used: look at my ravelry projects, there should be every info)

Mir ist ja mal wieder aufgefallen, dass ich mein ganzes in letzter Zeit beendetes Strick/Näh/Spinngedönse hier garnicht vorgestellt habe. Deshalb gibts nun die geballte Ladung. Details zu den meisten Sachen finden sich bei Ravelry

… and because of the urgent need for a reason not to learn for my exams right when I came home from the university I made a few calculations….

All I knew about knitting in 2007 was how to knit (purling was okay, but still quite complicated)

In 2008 I got kind of… obsessed. The final results:

Mein Strickwissen in 2007 beschränkte sich auch rechte Maschen (linke Maschen gingen so gerade, aber bitte nur eine alle paar rechten..). In 2008 bin ich dann der Stricksucht verfallen, anders kann ich mir diese Zahlen nicht erklären..

The downside of it: hardly no sewing. Apart from 3 pants for my dad and a case for my navigation system I got nothing done.

Hört sich ja ganz gut an. ABER: Januar 2008 besaß ich keinen Stash, und nun sind’s so ca 65 000 m.

Der Verlierer dieses Jahres: Meine Nähmaschine. Außer 3 Hosen für meinen Vater und eine Tasche für mein TomTom hat sich da nichts getan.

Today the holidays finally came to an end and I was back at the university. Leaving the new flat and driving back to the dorm was a bit sad. But I try to cheer me up by reminding me that it will only last for another year. And what is one more year compared to the 4 years I’m already driving to and fro between the dorm and my partners home?

Heute musste ich nach den Ferien = der besinnlichen Zeit (haha, jaja, war sehr besinnlich. Meditation durch Kistenpacken) wieder zurück an die Hochschule. Und mein schönes lilanes Zimmer nun gegen dieses kleine Wohnheimzimmer einzutauschen finde ich garnicht so toll. Immer wenn ich lange frei hatte ist es so schwer, wieder hier glücklich zu sein. Bis dahin habe ich nämlich verdrängt, dass ich eigentlich eine Wochenendsbeziehung führe. Aber naja. Nur noch ein Jahr! Und was ist ein Jahr verglichen mit den 4 Jahren die mein Studium schon geht?

Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob es das auch auf deutsch gibt. Aber trotzdem. Dieses Buch ist sowas von urkomisch, dass ich schon Tränen gelacht habe. Aufgebaut ist es wie ein Atlas, eingeteilt nach Erdteilen und dann eine/mehrere Seiten pro Land. Man muss wohl Sarkasmus mögen um mit dem Buch etwas anfangen zu können, aber wenn man ihn mag, dann wird man auch Spaß haben

Ultraviolet

Es ist ja doch etwas still hier in letzter Zeit. Und gut finde ich das eigentlich auch nicht. Deshalb gibts hier nun ein Posting, wenn auch ohne Photo. Denn ich habe zwar ein bischen gestrickt und gesponnen und Wolle bekommen habe ich auch, aber die Kamera war zu weit weg und das Sonnenlicht fehlte (wie immer). Aber der Reihe nach: spinnen tue ich momentan einen DyeingforColor Roving, 100% Merino in blau/violett. Das Spinnrad steht ja immernoch bei meinen Eltern und als ich dann bei der 15er Übersetzung mal ordenlich Dampf gemacht habe, ist mir aufgefallen dass die Abdeckungen der Kugellager anfangen lautstark zu vibrieren. Daher wird mein Vater da nochmal einen Spannverschluss dranbauen. Angepeilt habe ich erstmal einen sehr dünnen Single, der dann mit sich selber verzwirnt wird und hoffentlich dann zu einem Handschuh heranzuwachsen. Die großen Spulen meines Spinnrades (ca. 200g passen drauf), sind da nicht wirklich motivierend, da hat man wirklich das Gefühl dass sich garnichts tut. Aber die Hälfte ist ja geschafft!

Ich hänge immernoch vor dem ersten Chart meines zweiten Handschuhs, denn in letzter Zeit hatte ich nur mal zwischendurch Zeit für ein paar Reihen und mein Gehirn wäre mit Zöpfen überfordert gewesen. Deshalb nix neues von der Seite. Mein halb-quergestrickter Poison Nr. 5 Zweitsocke besteht auch erst aus ein paar Reihen…denn…

….die Schoppel Raggae, die ich vor nicht allzu langer Zeit (ein Garn mit langen Farbverläufen in unterschiedlichen Grüntönen) wollte dringend verstrickt werden. Nachdem mein erster Fan-Neckwarmer zwar schön, aber nicht wirklich formstabil geworden ist (nach 5 Minuten hängts Krawattenähnlich), bin ich nun zu den Brettstrickern übergegangen. Laut Banderole wird die Ragggae Nadelstärke 5-6 gestrickt. Ich habe die 4er genommen und so hat das ganze auch etwas mehr Stand. Ein Drittel ist fertig, der Rest wird hoffentlich in dieser Woche den weg vom Knäul in den Neckwarmer schaffen.

Und zu meiner Überraschung (es ging nämlich verdammt schnell) ist ein Paket aus der USA angekommen. Ich habe mit Maryjo getauscht: Knitpicks palette gegen Wollmeisen. Und ich fand in dem Paket dann nicht nur genug Palette um die geplante Decke zu stricken, sondern auch noch einen Chartreader, ein kleines Skizzenbuch und die aktuelle IK. In letzterer waren dann sogar zwei Pullover drin die mir a) von der Form her gefallen und b) mit dünnen Nadeln gestrickt werden.

Und sonst? Der Umzug bewegt sich langsam vorwärts. Die Tapeten haben alle ihren Weg an die Wand gefunden und nun wird mein Freund in dieser Woche anfangen zu streichen.

Donnerstags fahre ich auf dem Weg zu ihm bei Ikea vorbei und kaufe das nötigste. Zumindest die Dinge, die in mein Auto passen.

Ich freue mich schon riesig auf mein eigenes Textilgedöns-Zimmer. Und dank meinem Freund mit einer Wand in dunkel violett

Jippeeee!!! Davor sehen meine weissen Billy-Regal bestimmt gut aus. Und auch ein Teil meines Wollvorrats wird dann wohl zu meinem Freund umziehen. Und zwar in dieses wunderschöne Regal

Der Umzug ist zwar stressig und ich könnte mir zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr auch besseres vorstellen als Regale durch Hausflure zu wuchten, aber trotzdem freue ich mich irgendwie auf mein eigenes Eckchen Platz. Zum ungestörten Herumflusen und Fäden verteilen. Ob die Strickmaschine dort auch Platz hat, steht allerdings noch nicht fest, denn ich muss mein Reich mit Wäschenständern, Bügeleisen und Bügelbrett und sowas teilen.. und die nehmen ja (leider) auch Platz weg. Aber irgendwo ist ja immer ein Haken, ne?

So, genug gebrabbel. Und vielleicht gibts nach dem nächsten Wochenende auch schon ein Photo von meinem halbfertigen Zimmer

I feel a bit like neglecting my blogging in the recent weeks. And I don’t like it. To stop me feeling like this I will write something, even without having any photo. Reason: I have spun and knitted a bit, and I even got a lovely package (to be accurate two of them), but my camera wasn’t around or the sunlight was already gone. Let’s start with the first:
I’m about halfway through about 200g of dyeingforcolor roving in a beautiful purple-blue. The wheel is still at my parents home and I can only get any spinning done when I visit them. Last time I tried the 1:15 ration and when I went even a little faster the pillars above the bearing started to rattle. So my father immediately searched the web for ways to fix it. The yarn I’m spinning is quite thin so I plan to navajo-ply it and hopefully get something like fingering-weight yarn (enough for a pair of gloves or mittens). I love the big bobbins (they hold about 200g of yarn without any problem) although it’s a bit depressing because when spinning so fine I don’t see any progress. It feels like it takes for ever. But as I’ve done 50% it should be getting done in a reasonable timeframe….

The second glove of my new design still made no progress. I finished the ruffle edge and the 2 purl ridges at the cuff but then I couldn’t get myself to start with the charts. I had no time to sit down for a few hours and just knit on it so I just stayed away. I  don’t wlike to mess it up and then ripping it all out. The second sock in Poison shares the same fate. Nothing done.
Why? Because I have bought 4 skeins of Schoppel Raggae (a yarn is slow color transitions in different shades of green) and I couldn’t stop me from casting on a new fan-neckwarmer. I’ve done this pattern before but the resulting neckwarmer lacked stability. I love the way it looks when I’ve put it around my neck but within a few minutes it hangs down like a tie.

To avoid this on the new one I use 4mm needles instead of the 5-6mm given on the ballband.On  I think this will make it dense enough to stay around my neck in a more orderly manner. About a third is done, the rest should be finished by the end of this week.

And now I need to tell you about a surprise (I knew that I would get a shipment but I didn’t thought that it would turn up that fast) I got from the US. I swapped yarns with Maryjo: Knitpicks for Wollmeise. And in the packet isn’t just enough Knitpicks palette to knit the mitred square blanket but also a knitpicks chartreader,  two small sketchbooks and the current IK issue (there are 2 sweaters in there which I really really like and which done with small needles! YAY!)

Now let’s go to the more…. unfuzzy uncomfortable untextile things. The new wallpapers finally got on the walls of your new flat and my partner will now start painting the walls this week. Thursday I will visit Ikea and buy the absolutely necessary things (hum. at least the ones fitting into my car).

I’m soooo look forward to having a craftsroom. Thanks to my partner I will get a dark violet room ….

Jipeee!!! My white billy shelves will look great in front of it. A part of my stash will also move from the dorm to the craftsroom: in this wonderful piece of white billyness.

All the planning and packing things up for moving is really annoying and I sometimes just see things I still need to do and get a headache from it (I could think of something more relaxing than moving between Christmas and New Year, desperately trying to get our furniture up the stairways to our new flat). But I nevertheless love the idea of my new room. A place where I can spread all the fuzzy stuff and let leftover bits of yarn lying on the ground without offensing anyone. I still can’t say if my knitting machine will also get there because I need to share the room with laundry rag, the ironing board…. which will eat up a fair bit of the room.

Enough babbling. Time to wrap a few Christmas gifts.

 

Is this cheating?

I need to point out, that the knittingmachine has a huge stash busting ability. In a few hours hundreds of meters of yarn are knitted up. Is this cheating? I read this somewhere on the web…At least I might get on with my plan to prevent my stash from expanding and taking total control of my room. I hope to get another pair of socks done when I visit my parents tomorrow evening (it’s a Zitron Trekking colorway which should kind of stripe in a yellowish-green)…

Another good thing: Since I saw Kaita knitting the mitred square blanked it stayed in the back of my mind that I would love to have one myself. And know what? The knitting machine might work for this because I don’t think that I would get this blanket ever done if knitting it by hand. Plan to use the Knitpicks Essential yarn (seems that I found someone who will help me on that in exchange for some wollmeise) in violet, black, green and grey. Still thinking of the range of colors I need to make it look good. I browsed the projects on ravelry and found both projects using only 4 colors and ones using dozens of them. But every other color I try to add just doesn’t look right to me. I really don’t want to get a multicolor rainbow like blanket because it would look really strange to the rest of our furniture…. Any opinions on that?

Thanks to me needing to stay late at the university the pictures I tried to take from the finished spina di pesce socks look like crap. Not even heavy filter use could make them any better. Seems that I will need to wait for Friday where I don’t need to go to the university to make a second attempt.

Mums Corkscrew scarf is SLOWLY growing. The amount of yarn I used already is really insane for the size of it. Up until now it weights about 200g and much to short to use it, so I will knit on to make it double the length it has now. So this will add up to a total 400g of wool for this (small!!!) scarf. The spiral thing is just eating up the yarn.

Spinning isn’t going anywhere because the wheel is still at my parents because I won’t cram it in my little car to put it up in the flat of my partner we will move out of in less than 4 weeks. So, no spinning done at all.

When I was at the Wollfabrik last week, I saw the Louet S45 and was kind of… hmm… lured. It looks so cute! I don’t really like the look of most folding wheels and this one is just nice and tiny without any folding-metal-parts looking like.. don’t know. Just not the way I want a spinningwheel to look like. You see, I’m looking for a travel wheel. Maybe I will get back there and testspin it…..

Ich muss ja mal sagen, so eine Strickmaschine ist schon ein echter Wollfresser. In ein paar Stunden verschwinden hunderte Meter Garn aus meinem Stash. Ist das geschummelt? Sowas habe ich ja mal im Internet gelesen…. Aber so werde ich wenigstens mit meinem Plan meinen Wollstash ein bischen zu reduzieren wenigsten ein klein wenig Erfolg haben. Hoffentlich klappt alles und ich habe morgen abend Zeit ein Paar Socken zu Stricken wenn ich bei meinen Eltern bin (eine neue Zitron Trekking Färbung die in gelb/grün ringeln soll).

Und da ist noch etwas: Seit ich Kaita an dem Mitred square blanket habe stricken sehen, gibt diese Decke mir nicht mehr aus dem Kopf. Wäre ja schon nett sowas zu haben. Und wenn ich das alles richtig sehe, dann klappt das mit meiner Strickmaschine (handgestrickt würde ich damit wohl nie fertig werden). Geplant ist dafür Knitpicks Essential (ich habe jemanden gefunden der die Lieferung von Amerika aus an mich weiterleitet im Austausch gegen Wollmeisen). Bei Knittybitty gibts die zwar, aber nicht in den den Farben die ich gerne hätte: violett, grün, schwarz, grau. Und das ist auch wieder so eine Sache: sind das zu wenige Farben? Ich habe bei Ravelry mal ein paar Projekte angesehen und manche benutzen nur 4 Farben und andere Dutzende (mh, Kaita? Fühlst du dich angesprochen?). Aber irgendwie finde ich keine anderen Farben mehr die dazu 100% passen. Und zu bunt würde die Decke wohl auch nicht zum Rest der Wohnung passen. Irgendwelche Meinungen?
Da ich in letzter Zeit unter der Woche (bzw. mo-do) bis abends an der Hochschule bin, habe ich bis jetzt zwar versucht Photos von den fertigen Spina di Pesce Socken zu machen, aber sie waren sowas von unscharf oder durch ISO 1600 absolut körnig. Da half sogar mehrfache mit Filtern drüberbügeln nicht mehr. Vielleicht klappts ja am Freitag mit ein paar akzeptablen Photos.

Der Corkscrew Schal für meine Mutter wächst LANGSAM. Die Garnmenge die da mittlerweile drinsteckt ist einfach unglaublich wenn man sich die Größe die das Ding bis jetzt hat ansieht. Fast 200g und immernoch nicht genug. Doppelt so lang wäre schon gut, also werden es so 400g für diesen doch recht schmalen und kurzen Schal. Solche Spiralen verbrauchen einfach zu viel Wolle.

Gesponnen wurde nix, weil mein Spinnrad immernoch bei meinen Eltern steht, denn in weniger als 4 Wochen wird mein Freund umziehen und für die paar Wochenenden die ich bei ihm bin werde ich das Rad nicht in mein Auto stecken.

Letzte Woche hat’s mich mal wieder zur Wollfabrik verschlagen und ich habe mir dort mal die Spinnräder angesehen. Das Louet S45 sieht ja schon wirklich seeehr interessant aus. Die meisten Reisespinnräder sind einfach nicht mein Fall, weil sie irgendwie .. naja… z.B. beim Ashford Joy dieses Metallschanier an der Seite. Jaja, ich weiss, das muss ja da sein, es wird ja was hochgeklappt, aber ich mag das trotzdem nicht. Erinnert mich etwas an einen Klappstuhl. Ausserdem ist die Form von dem Louet einfach so ungewöhnlich. Vielleicht werde ich ja nochmal vorbeifahren und probespinnen…
